Changing Seasons ~ March 2016 [88/365]

Here’s the third instalment of The Changing Seasons project. March 2016. Not so much has changed. For a while, we had no snow, then we got some, and that is still in place, in spite of the rainstorm the other day.

I don’t know if the little sparrow is an American Tree Sparrow or Song Sparrow, but I heard someone singing its heart out … looked up, and shot that picture. There was still a very thin, sheet of ice on Lily Lake yesterday. A group of deer showed up. We’ll see less of them now, as the Spring progresses.

  1. that water looks so cold. I think Mrs Mallard is the smart one, snuggling down in warm straw! Lovely pictures. You did a great job of showing us the world before green growth.

    1. Thank you, Joss … not the slightest little hint of green here. I’m looking forward to seeing green! Everything is so drab this time of year!

  2. It’s nice to see your animal photos Reb. I heard all the little birds in my backyard started a cacophony the other day and I thought that it might be a cat down there. Turned out it was a sparrowhawk!
I didn’t get any photos of it, because I had my son on my arm and I didn’t go to get the camera either. I thought about it, but figured that I’d rather show him and explain what was happening, instead of potentially missing the moment (you go for the camera, you come back and then there’s nothing).

    1. Oh wow! Interesting for your son to see! The little birds must have gotten scared for the lives. I’ve only seen Sparrow Hawk twice here.

That never fails … β€œwhen you come back there’s nothing” πŸ™‚

        1. They probably will, in the city, but we here … live on the 9th floor, and the building is located on the highest point. Our feet will remain dry πŸ™‚

  3. Hurrah Spring is on the way…albeit slowly & with a few kicks from Swinter…..
You deer pix are FAB Rebby!!!! You should send them to National Geographic….you are THAT good!
    (((hugs))) Sherri-Ellen

      1. I just speak as I find Rebby! And your photography is THAT great!
We are having a huge rainstorm here so snow & ice are being washed away; even the giant 10 foot snowpiles are receding. AND WE HAVE FUNCTIONING DRAINPIPES!!!! fINALLY!!!!! πŸ™‚

        1. That is wonderful news, about the drainpipes, Sherri-Ellen!!! Great stuff. This weather system is removing all left-over snow, except one β€œfort” that someone built out in the park. I saw it today … the snow is so hard packed, so that will withstand a few more rainstorms πŸ™‚

          1. The 10 foot high snow bank in strip mall parking lot is slowly coming down here as it snows today!
And it is a good thing we have drainpipes before Spring really starts. Water streaming down the walls is not good for the foundation at all. Plus it has stirred up the ants…..sighs

  4. Lovely gallery! The deer are beautiful and I do love the birds! There is a song sparrow that sings to me every morning from the top of my house!

  5. March was the most difficult month so far in the challenge, wasn’t it? Because, as you point out, nothing really changed. Your wildlife photos are always amazing – Canadian nature is really something.

    1. Thank you! It sure was, so I focused on the animals instead … hoping April will present itself with at least a little bit of colour!
